The 2019 Business and Industrial Appreciation Day (BIAD) event is fast approaching and will honor Geneva Capital, and their many contributions to our area.

The annual BIAD event will be held, Tuesday, October 8th at 11:30 am -1:00 pm at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center on Lake Darling. Geneva Capital was formed in July 2000 by Mark Watkins, but prior to creating Geneva, Mark had over 15 years of experience in all aspects of the capital equipment leasing industry. The mission of the company is to be a leading provider of financing solutions to the graphic arts, fitness, sign, and municipal marketplaces.

Geneva currently has 50 people in their Alexandria office including 2 part-time interns. They also have remote sales managers across the country bringing the total year-round employees to 57. During the summer months, they also bring on several interns. In the last 8 years, they’ve created 37 positions, 20 in just the last 2 years.

Geneva Capital’s culture focuses on giving back to the community. They have set up an internal team called the Community Reinvestment Committee (CRC) to field all philanthropic requests. Each quarter, 3-5 people volunteer to serve on the CRC to review and direct all donation requests. Through the CRC they’re able to donate to MANY area causes from individual financial hardships, medical/health benefits, school initiatives, and so many more. To date, the CRC has donated nearly $900,000 to the communities of Geneva’s employees.

Geneva has also contributed to the Alexandria Area through the United Way, Alexandria Area High School, community events such as Vikingland Sportsmen’s Youth Outdoor Day, Vikingland Band Festival, Relay for Life, Festival of the Lakes and many more.

We look forward to celebrating Geneva Capital this year at BIAD!

Business & Industrial Appreciation Day:

Since 1984, an outstanding Alexandria area business or organization has been selected as the BIAD recipient and has been honored for their significant contribution to the social and economic vitality of the Douglas County region through creation of jobs, business investment, and community development efforts.

The local celebration has been recognized as one of the largest and longest standing annual events of its type in greater Minnesota with attendance from regional citizens, business persons, and government officials from the area.

The honored company is selected by the Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission and Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce based on:

  • Growth in number of employees; the impact of the business on the job market
  • Increase in sales and/or unit volume; an indication of continued growth
  • Capital Investment; an indication of commitment by the business to increase community capacity
  • Community Contributions; evidence of the business’s investment of time, skills, and resources to assist in community oriented projects
